Update on AHS vs. AUPE - Bargaining-in-bad-faith Complaint

On July 16, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) participated in a resolution conference at the ALRB regarding AHS’s complaint that AUPE bargained in bad faith during the April 7-8 bargaining meetings.
Back in April, both parties publicly shared conflicting accounts of what transpired during those meetings. However, the existence of the formal complaint itself was only discovered by concerned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) on July 11 - by accident. Neither AHS nor AUPE had disclosed it.
❗ Why the secrecy?
Resolution conferences are not open to the public, and no announcement was made by either party. After the conference, we contacted the ALRB directly. They confirmed that formal hearings are still scheduled for October 27-
30, indicating that the matter was not resolved.
📢 LPNs deserve transparency.
This complaint has already delayed bargaining. LPNs - whose futures are directly affected - have a right to know when such disputes arise and how they’re being handled. Silence from AHS and AUPE is unacceptable.
We’ve included the letter sent to both parties demanding answers. It’s time for accountability.
